Dalai Lama congratulates Prime Minister-elect of New Zealand

DHARAMSHALA, Oct. 17: His Holiness the Dalai Lama has extended his congratulations to Prime Minister-Elect of New Zealand Chris Luxon following his recent election victory. The message recognized the electoral success as well as the profound optimism over the prospects of a brighter future for the world, through the new leadership.

Addressing the global challenges faced in the present times, His Holiness emphasized the growing awareness of interdependence and the interconnectedness of humanity across the globe. He expressed his belief that collective efforts would pave the way for positive changes in the long run. His Holiness remarked, “Today, the world is passing through very trying times. Even as there is a growing sense of the interdependence and oneness of humanity across the world, I am optimistic that through collective efforts, things will change for the better in the long run.

“Your country has the potential to play an important role in promoting global security and peace. In this connection, your commitment to New Zealand’s nuclear-free policy is a message that other countries need to hear and to emulate. Eventual disarmament is the only way to make this world a better place for us all,” the Tibetan leader further wrote.

His Holiness the Dalai Lama who has had numerous visits to New Zealand over the years reminisced about the warm reception he has received from people across the entire social spectrum during his visits. He noted that New Zealanders have demonstrated great interest and support for his efforts to promote fundamental human values, including compassion, forgiveness, tolerance, contentment, and self-discipline, as well as fostering inter-religious harmony.
