DHARAMSHALA, August 25: Gonpo Kyi, the sister of imprisoned Tibetan businessman Dorjee Tashi, has been denied hospital treatment after she was assaulted by police officers outside the Lhasa People’s Court. This marks the second instance this month in which Gonpo Kyi has been targeted for her unwavering quest for justice on behalf of her brother who been imprisoned since 2008 on purported charges of “loan fraud.”

On August 25, Tibet Watch received new videos of the events that unfolded on August 23. Gonpo Kyi went to the Lhasa People’s Court with an appeal letter, requesting a retrial for her brother’s case. However, her plea for justice was met with brutal force as police personnel forcibly restrained her, dragged her, and subjected her to physical assault right in front of the court premises.

After the assault, Gonpo Kyi was urgently transported to the Lhasa People’s Hospital for medical attention. Despite the urgency of her medical condition, hospital authorities declined her admission. In the videos captured, she can be seen lying on the hospital floor, distressed and vomiting, while hospital staff reportedly turned a blind eye to her.

This latest incident transpired just weeks after Gonpo Kyi’s prior attempt to advocate for her brother resulted in another bout of violence. Earlier in the month, she attempted to visit her brother at the Drapchi prison, where he has been confined for more than a decade. Her appeal for a meeting was met with refusal and physical aggression, leaving her with injuries to her arms.

This recent incident unfolded only days after another Tibetan faced a similar ordeal. On August 19, Tashi Wangchuk, an advocate for Tibetan language rights, was subjected to an assault and subsequently denied access to medical care. While travelling between counties, he was trailed by an unknown vehicle and subsequently prohibited from securing lodging by local authorities. Upon his attempt to check into a hotel, a group of unidentified assailants brutally attacked him. When he sought medical assistance for his injuries, he was denied treatment, leaving him without shelter or medical aid throughout the night.

Critics say that these successive instances of violence and disregard for the well-being of individuals advocating for justice have intensified apprehensions about the state of human rights in Tibet. As international condemnation grows louder, calls for accountability, justice, and respect for basic human rights remain at the forefront of the ongoing struggle.

  1. Those who expect to get justice in a Chinese justice system is living in a fantasy world! The CCP constitution doesn’t protect the rights of the citizens but protect the CCP itself. All the laws of the CCP are to proclaim the rights of the party over the people and not the responsibility it has for the people. There is no rule of law in communist China because the CCP is the judge, jury and the executioner! The citizens are at the mercy of the party and protecting the party is rule by law. Here is a recent story from communist China how everything precedes the interest of the party. At a school in China, a CCP official drove in the school yard and ran over a child causing the death of the child. The mother complained to the school authorities and the child killer for being careless to allow cars inside the school compound that killed her only child and sought justice for her diseased child. Instead of consoling the grieving mother for the loss of her child and giving justice, they blamed her for creating public nuisance and police were brought in brandishing the communist flag to intimidate her. Seeing there was no hope of getting justice for the death of her child, she committed suicide! In communist China, people are expandable. People’s lives have no value. Communism is a elitist ideology. It ONLY CARES FOR THE COMMUNIST ELITE and the people are of no consequence. That is why communist China has no human rights and regards it as a western tool to “interfere in its internal affairs”. All the crimes committed by Triad gangs, sex attackers, human traffickers , drug traffickers et all against the civilian population are never punished. They enjoy protection from the CCP and its tools of oppression. A good example is the three women who were viciously attacked by a gang of men after the criminals made advances on the women and when they rejected, they were attacked. Instead of supporting the women victims, the CCP covered up the crime of the thugs. Only after Chinese netizens erupted in horror on Weibo, the culprits were taken to task. All the law enforcement authorities are directed to protect the reputation of the CCP at any cost instead of meting justice for the victims. Therefore, Ama Gonpo’s Kyid’s protest will have no impact for the release of her brother. All the Tibetan political prisoners are deliberately disappeared from public view in order to prevent the spread of their ideas in the community. They have done nothing wrong but in order to protect the legitimacy and supremacy of the CCP, they are kept behind bars so they die with their ideas.
Tibetans in occupied Tibet are enslaved by the CCP just like the slaves brought from Africa! They can’t go anywhere even inside occupied Tibet let alone travel abroad. They are treated like slaves with no rights whatsoever and are completely at the mercy of the CCP thugs. The CCP has stationed half a million troops to police, suppress and crush any descent. There is no outside threat to occupied Tibet. Therefore, why should there be such a large contingent of Chinese troops in occupied Tibet? ITS SOLE PURPOSE IS TO MAINTAIN CHINESE MILITARY OCCUPATION OF TIBET. The CCP attitude to Tibetans is that of slave traders! They see occupied Tibet and its people as the property of the CCP. It therefore bristles at the talk of Tibetan people’s rights. It has dehumanised the Tibetans as “extremely savage and backward”. This racial vilification embodies the CCP’s perception of the Tibetan people as nothing but slaves! Treating an elderly woman with such cruelty by denying medical treatment demonstrates the sheer callous nature of the CCP who has no respect for human life. It denounces empathy and instead encourages cruelty! The world must see the CCP for what it is! IT’S A MURDEROUS MAFIA GANG WHICH IS HELL BENT TO IMPOSE ITS WILL WITH WIFUL DISREGARD FOR HUMAN LIFE! Its slave master mentality now borders on ethnocide of the Tibetans by subjecting them to gross violations of their cultural, religious, linguistic and ethnic identity. It is on the verge of erasing everything that is Tibetan including the very name of the country known internationally as TIBET FOR CENTURIES!

  2. Under Chinese Communist Party (CCP) rule, the law and order situation in Tibet has been brutal. Numerous cases, such as that of Gompo Kyi seeking justice for loved ones, highlight instances of atrocities by authorities. Injustice towards Tibetans within Tibet appears to be prevalent, and many individuals in the free world may be unaware or skeptical of the ongoing grievous incidents under the CCP regime. Despite economic advancements, the lack of basic human rights in Tibet remains a significant concern.
