DHARAMSHALA, MAR 10: The commemoration of the 61st anniversary of the 10th March Tibetan Uprising Day witnessed scores of protests and events by the Tibetan people across the world.

Herein the virtual capital of the Tibetan diaspora, the Central Tibetan Administration (CTA) held the official function at Tsuglagkhang courtyard prior to the protest march organized by five major Tibetan NGOs (TYC, TWA, NDPT, Gu-Chu-Sum and SFT-India).

In New Delhi, Regional Tibetan Youth Congress (RTYC) demonstrated at the Chinese embassy with some of the protestors arrested immediately at the site by the Delhi police. Moreover, TYC North-East organized a motorcycle rally that flagged off from Gangtok for the 10th March event.

In New York, Tibetans will be marking the event by gathering at the courtyard of UN Headquarters, cancelling the march which was planned beforehand. In Bern, Switzerland, changes were made to proceedings due to the ongoing outspread of COVID-19. Similarly, in Sydney, Australia, Tibetans and Tibet supporters marched through the streets following a public gathering event.

However, Tibetans in Nepal have not observed any event as the Tibetan Welfare Office urged the locals not to indulge in any political activities to avoid the crackdown by the Nepalese police. Nepal’s government has been rampant in curbing any political activities by the Tibetan people including the March 10 commemorations.

Tibetans demonstrated all over the world in large numbers to mark the 10th March Uprising anniversary despite the COVID-19 scare and official directives to refrain from public gatherings.
