Dalai Lama extends birthday wishes to PM Modi, expresses gratitude to India for warm hospitality

DHARAMSHALA, Sept. 17: Tibetan leader His Holiness the Dalai Lama has written to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, extending warm greetings on his birthday and wishing him continued good health and a long life on Wednesday.

In his message, the Tibetan spiritual leader lauded India’s achievements under Modi’s leadership. “As India’s longest staying guest, I have witnessed firsthand the far-reaching development and prosperity that have taken place over the years. I congratulate you on the growing confidence and strength that have occurred in recent times. India’s success also contributes to global development,” he wrote.

The nonagenarian leader further praised India’s rich democratic traditions and cultural heritage. “I consider myself a proud messenger of India, and regularly express my admiration for India, the world’s most populous and largest democracy, for its remarkable and deeply rooted religious pluralism. India presents an example of harmony and stability to the world.”

Highlighting Tibet’s deep spiritual and cultural ties with India, the Dalai Lama expressed gratitude on behalf of the Tibetan people. “For us Tibetans, India has not only been the source of our spiritual heritage, but for more than sixty-six years, has also been our physical home. I would like to once again extend our deep gratitude to the Government and people of India for their warm and generous hospitality.”

Concluding his letter, the Nobel Laureate offered his prayers and best wishes to the Indian Prime Minister.

Earlier, on July 6, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had greeted His Holiness the Dalai Lama on his 90th birthday, describing him as a symbol of love, compassion, patience, and moral discipline. In a post on X, Modi wished the Tibetan spiritual leader good health and long life.

“I join 1.4 billion Indians in extending our warmest wishes to His Holiness the Dalai Lama on his 90th birthday. He has been an enduring symbol of love, compassion, patience, and moral discipline. His message has inspired respect and admiration across all faiths. We pray for his continued good health and long life,” the PM wrote.
