DHARAMSHALA, Aug. 11: The International Council of Jurists announced on Friday that the 2025 International Peace Prize will be awarded to Tibetan leader His Holiness the Dalai Lama, alongside other globally revered peace personalities, including Jain Acharya Dr. Lokesh Muni, and Malala Yousafzai.

The International Peace Prize honours individuals whose lives and actions embody the spirit of non-violence, justice, and human dignity. In its statement, the ICJ praised the Dalai Lama for his “lifelong commitment to non-violence, global peace, and universal compassion.”

“At a time when the world is witnessing rising conflict and existential threats from nuclear weapons. We are proud to honour these three moral leaders who represent the best of humanity,”  said Dr. Adish C. Aggarwala, President of the International Council of Jurists and Convener of the International March for Nuclear Disarmament and a Peaceful World. “Their voices have transcended borders and inspired generations.”

The announcement came ahead of the International March for Nuclear Disarmament and a Peaceful World, held on August 9 at Speakers’ Corner, Hyde Park, London, to mark the 80th anniversary of the atomic bombing of Nagasaki. The event called for a global ban on nuclear weapons and included a one-minute silence in memory of the victims of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

The prize was presented during the public gathering, which drew support from international human rights organisations, civil society leaders, legal professionals, and youth delegations from around the world. The ICJ, a London-based body of jurists from various countries, engages in research and hosts conferences on issues including human rights and constitutional duties in both London and India, while also recognising contributions to global harmony through awards such as the International Peace Prize.
