DHARAMSHALA, Aug 15: The Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile (TPiE) concluded a five-day strategic meeting held in Delhi from August 6th to 11th, 2023. The meeting culminated with the launch of the TPiE Strategic Plan 2023-2026, which outlines a comprehensive framework for the parliament’s activities and objectives over the next four years.

The TPiE Strategic Plan 2023-2026 focuses on key guiding principles, strategic goals, and detailed action plans designed to drive the parliament’s efforts towards achieving specific milestones. The plan comprises six strategic goals that will serve as the foundation for TPiE’s work in the coming years. These goals were crafted through collaborative efforts and contributions from Tibetan Members of Parliament (MPs), who shared their ideas and recommendations during the strategic meeting.

During the presentation of the strategic plan documents, the Deputy Speaker of the Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile underscored the importance of the strategic plan. Deputy Speaker Dolma Tsering expounded on the rigorous journey that culminated in the plan’s completion as well as detailing the methodical process that saw the initial distribution of the draft document to every Member of Parliament. Further deliberation and fine-tuning ensued during a session of the standing committee. However, despite the palpable anticipation surrounding its contents, the strategic plan remains confined within the circles of the parliamentary assembly, as it has yet to be released into the public domain.

The strategic meeting provided an opportunity for Tibetan MPs to engage in discussions with Indian dignitaries and experts. These interactions, which took place over the course of five days, are expected to guide TPiE’s future endeavours. Notably, the meeting facilitated exchanges between Tibetan and Indian Members of Parliament from both houses. MP Sujeet Kumar, Convenor of the All Party Indian Parliamentary Forum for Tibet (APIPFT), was among the distinguished Indian MPs present, and his insights were especially valued by the Tibetan delegation.

In the closing session of the five-day meeting, the Deputy Speaker underscored the significance of the exchanges between Tibetan and Indian MPs. She remarked that the deliberations during the meeting would play a crucial role in shaping TPiE’s strategic approach moving forward. The Deputy Speaker Tsering also expressed gratitude for the opportunity to interact with Indian counterparts, emphasizing that such engagements fostered deeper understanding and collaboration between the two communities.
