DHARAMSHALA, October 13: The Tibetan Women’s Association (TWA) today conferred ‘Jamtse Lopon Award’ on the Tibetan leader His Holiness the Dalai Lama at the latter’s residence today. The award recognizes His Holiness as the ‘compassionate and perfect teacher’.
“Biologically women are more sensitive toward others suffering and I have always considered my mother as my first teacher who introduced compassion to me. So it is important for the women to take more important role in educating others on compassion starting with your own families,” the Tibetan spiritual leader said.
Accepting the award, the Dalai Lama said that a mother must leave an impression of compassionate nature on their infants so that it would be permanently imprinted on their minds while growing up.
“We must educate the pros and cons of warmheartedness on the basis of scientific reasoning and not based on faith,” the Dalai Lama said, adding that an individual filled with hatred and anger would end up unhappy.
99 women, including some former members, from 39 chapters of the organization were present at the audience with His Holiness.
TWA President, Dolma Yangchen said, “It was one of the key decisions made during our 12th Working Committee Meeting last year, to express our gratitude to His Holiness on his 82nd Birthday. However, due to his long absence from Dharamshala and busy schedule, it was only made possible today.”
The members of the organization after the audience expressed their joy having got the opportunity to present the award.
“I have been with TWA for over 10 years. However, after the audience and his advise I realized that I have an added responsibility of being a mother. Seeing him work this hard at this age has encouraged me further to work harder, not just as social worker but also as a mother,” said Tenzin Dolma, President of TWA Bylakuppe.
To sign off the ‘auspicious day’, the members performed a ceremonial dance and a short Tibetan opera song in praise the Tibetan spiritual leader at the courtyard of Tsuglagkhang.
