DHARAMSHALA, FEB. 14: The Tibetan Prime Minister Lobsang Sangay on Monday has expressed hopes for a joint, coordinated effort from the United States government and the Japanese counterparts, in endorsing and supporting the CTA’s official stand of Middle Way Approach with China. The Harvard educated PM was speaking at The Foreign Correspondents’ Club of Japan in Tokyo.
The Tibetan government in exile, officially known as the Central Tibetan Administration whose head, Lobsang Sangay, currently on a trip to Japan has met and spoken with Japanese public and members of the civil society including intellectuals and members of the press since last week.
Speaking at an event yesterday where members of the Japanese think tank, Japan Institute of National Fundamentals, were also present, the Tibetan PM said that the CTA hopes for coordinated support from US and Japan who have portrayed ally-ship in confronting issues in the past.
Sangay said that what his administration is seeking, which is genuine autonomy for Tibet does not contradict China’s sovereignty, and that it further espouses to function within the framework and the constitution of China. Sangay said it is a “win-win solution for Tibetans and Chinese” and denial of the proposal shows “double standard” by the communist leadership in Beijing.
When asked of any expectations or scope for optimism from the new Trump led US administration, the Tibetan PM said he is hopeful looking back at the healthy track record between Tibetan leader His Holiness the Dalai lama and former US presidents. “We will wait and see,” Sangay replied.
He also urged the civil society and the governments of the world to recognize Tibet as a blue print of what is to happen in regions claimed by China such as the South East Asia and Senkaku Island in East China Sea, among others. He also said that resolution of the Tibetan issue could hold key to being a catalyst in reshaping the geo-politics and politics in general in the region.
Tomorrow Sikyong will meet members of Japanese Parliament which formed a Japanese Parliamentary Support Group for Tibet last November. Sikyong will speak on Tibet and Freedom of Religion at the meeting organised at the House of Representatives building in Tokyo, according to CTA run Tibet.net.
