DHARAMSHALA, August 6: A Chinese court in Tibet’s Nyagchu County in Kardze (Tibet Autonomous Prefecture) has sentenced five Tibetans to varying prison terms for alleged role in “anti China” activities last Thursday.
Four of them, all from Serta, are Gangkay Drupa Kyab, Samdup, Yudrang and Drensel, according to information received by Phayul. There is no detail available at the moment about the fifth person.
The four Tibetans from Serta were sentenced for their alleged role in carrying out “anti-China” campaigns and being members of a blacklisted association called Mar chung Ngogoel Tsogpa.
Gangkey Drupa Kyab, a writer, was sentenced to five years and six months’ imprisonment. He was arrested on February 15 last year. Kyab is from Gephel Dewa, In 2008, he had published a book titled Sa Jhi Thrag Dri Marpo about the nationwide protest in Tibet that same year. He worked as a teacher at Dartsang and Horshul School. At the time of his arrest, he was working as a teacher at a school started by Abbot Tsultrim Lodoe in Drako.
Samdup, 32, was sentenced to five years in prison. He was arrested on June 13, 2012 for “participating and promoting political movements.” He is a native of Gonchog Dewa in Serta County.
Yudrang was sentenced to two years in prison while Drensel received a three years’ imprisonment.
