DHARAMSHALA, October 31: A group of Tibetans in Sydney, Australia will be fasting outside the Chinese consulate to join the Tibetan global day of action on 2nd November.

The group in a press release said that the series of self-immolations inside Tibet in recent months speaks of unbearable plight of the people in Tibet.

“The 24 hour fast calls for action from International communities to intervene in the ferocious self-immolation crisis in Tibet,” said Jamyang, a member of the group.

Since March, ten Tibetans in Tibet have set themselves on fire, calling for freedom in Tibet while Tibetans and supporters in exile across the globe are targeting the up-coming G-20 summit in France where the Chinese President Hu Jiantao is scheduled to attend.

The Australian Green Party in an earlier statement condemned Beijing for its faulty security measures in Tibet and urged the Australian government to stand with the people of Tibet.

“The silence of the world on the repression of Tibetan Buddhism and vilification of the Dalai Lama by Beijing are a daily reminder of the way corporate greed overrides human rights in global affairs,” said Bob Brown, a Green Party senator.
