Sitting parliamentarian Gyalrong Dawa Tsering passes away

DHARAMSHALA, September 28: Member of Parliament from Domey province, Gyalrong Dawa Tsering breathed his last today at around 3.20 pm Indian time. He was 59.

The day’s final session of the ongoing monsoon sitting of the Tibetan Parliament-in-exile was adjourned and the Parliamentarians and staff of the Parliamentary Secretariat held a prayer service for the deceased.

The Parliamentary Secretariat in a condolence message expressed deep sadness over the demise of Gyalrong Dawa Tsering.

“Gyalrong Dawa Tsering has served to the best of his capacity with a firm conviction in His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s guidance and the Charter to fulfil the aspirations of the Tibetan people,” the Secretariat said.

An official resolution of condolence will be tabled tomorrow in the House.

Gyalrong Dawa Tsering was elected to the parliament for three consecutive terms. After attending the ongoing session of the parliament initially, Gyalrong Dawa Tsering complained of health complications and was rushed to Chandigarh for emergency treatment.

Gyalrong Dawa Tsering was born in 1952 in Tsona, Tibet. After escaping into exile, he served in the Special Frontier Force for 26 years (1969-1994). During his service, he rose from the rank of a clerk to Assistant Political Leader.

He is survived by his wife and children.
