DHARAMSALA September 23: A group of around thirty Burmese refugee students and activists are on a three day visit here in the town to learn about the Tibetan community and its struggle for a free Tibet.
“The Burmese struggle for democracy and the Tibetan struggle for independence are both fighting Chinese colonialism,” said Tenzin Tsundue, president of the Regional Tibetan Youth Congress Dharamsala.
There is much to learn and support each other, said Tusndue.
The group has witnessed the ongoing 15th Tibetan parliament session and visited various non-governmental organizations.
A documentary screening and an interaction with the local Tibetans were held Friday evening.
Tenzin Jigdal, India based Students for a free Tibet Coordinator said that the visit is certainly an encouragement to the Tibetans.
“Burmese people have been sharing a similar plight as ours under the military junta rule for almost five decades,” Jigdal said.
The group is on the visit to the town, the seat of Tibetan government in exile as a part of their annual program, and the visit was arranged by four Tibetan rights groups-Tibetan Women’s Association, Regional Tibetan Youth Congress, Dharamsala, Gu Chu Sum Movement of Tibet and Students for a Free Tibet, India.
