Dharamsala, Jan 13: Exiled Tibetan leader His Holiness the Dalai Lama has expressed his sadness over loss of lives and property cased by recent floods in large parts of the state of Queensland in Australia.

In a letter to Ms. Anna Bligh, the Premier of Queensland, last week, the Nobel Peace Laureate offered his prayers for the “swift relief and safety of all those affected by the floods” and expressed hope that normal life would be restored soon.

“His Holiness the Dalai Lama expressed his sadness and concern about the widespread hardship for many people and huge damage to property caused by the unprecedented floods in large parts of the state of Queensland, Australia,” the office of the Tibetan leader said in a post on its official website.

“At the same time, His Holiness praised the government’s preparedness and ability to respond to the people’s needs during this crisis,” the post added.

Ms Blig reportedly described that the state was reeling from the worst natural disaster in its history.

As of Thursday, media reports said at least 22 people have died and more than 40 are missing in Queensland as heavy rainfall flooded an area bigger than France and Germany combined.
