Dharamsala, Feb 19: US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi released a statement applauding President Barack Obama’s meeting with His Holiness the Dalai Lama following the two leaders meeting at the White House on Thursday.

“I commend the President for meeting with His Holiness, the Dalai Lama, a champion of peace and non-violence, and a voice for dignity, justice, and respect for all humanity,” the statement said.

“His Holiness is a source of wisdom and compassion, a powerful spokesman for the moral duty and inherent worth of every person, and a force for human rights across the globe.

“President Obama’s meeting with the Dalai Lama marks another chapter in the long friendship and close ties between the United States and the people of Tibet. As Americans, we must continue to stand with His Holiness to promote, preserve, and protect the rights of all people to live in freedom worldwide,” Pelosi said in the statement.
