Tibetans in New York mark International Human Rights Day

December 11, 2009: Commemorating the 61st anniversary of International Human Rights Day, Tibetans and their supporters in New York and New Jersey area gathered in front of United Nation to raise their voice against the ongoing violation of human rights inside Tibet.

The demonstrators chanted slogans and carried in their hands placards, Tibetan and American national flags, huge banners and posters denouncing China’s continued occupation of Tibet. The banners also read China to quit Tibet and demanded Independence, Freedom and Human Rights for Tibetans.

RTYC president, Nawang Tashi read out the Tibetan Youth Congress’s (TYC) press statement on International Human Rights Day. Also speaking at the event were Tenzin Sangpo, ex-political prisoner, Tsomoeling Penpa, Public Relation Officer for Tibetan Community of New York and New Jersey who is also an ex-political prisoner and Tenzin Dolkar of Students for Free Tibet.

Although many countries in the world yesterday observed the principles set forth in Universal Declaration of Human Rights regrettably China as a member of the UN Security Council and the international community, has failed to respect the principles set therein, said the RTYC, NY and NJ, which condemned the executions as a violation of international human rights law and urge United Nation to investigate the gross human right violations inside Tibet.

The gathering sang the Tibetan National anthem followed by Den-Tsig-Monlam ‘Words of Truth’ prayer and patriotic song ‘Long-Shog’ (rise up).

The event was arranged by the Regional Tibetan Youth Congress of New York and New Jersey.
