Dharamsala, September 21 – An earthquake measuring 6.3 on Richter scale has killed ten people including three Indian labourers in Bhutan today, reported the Bhutan Broadcasting Service.

The U.S. Geological Survey reported that the epicentre of the quake lied between Trashigang and Monggar, about 80 miles (125 kilometers) north of Guwahati and 115 miles (180 kilometers) east of Thimphu at a depth of 4.5 miles (7.2 kilometers).

Power supply, telephone and mobile lines have also been disrupted.

The Home Minsiter, Lyonpo Minjur Dorji, has told BBS that his Ministry is coordinating with the Dzongkhags (districts) and doing its best to help those affected.

“We’re trying to piece together information to assess the damage,” Ugyen Tenzing, the country’s director of disaster management told the Associate Press from Thimphu, Bhutan’s capital.

Tremors were reportedly felt also in Bangladesh and Lhasa, Tibet’s capital but no damages in either place have been reported.
