10th march commemorated in Italy

Italy, March 11 – The Tibetans from all over Italy and their Italian supporters gathered in Rome in front of the Italian parliament square to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Tibetan peoples uprising against Chinese invasion.

While a resolution passed by the intergroup parliamentarians for Tibet was being discussed inside the parliament, Speech of H.H the Dalai Lama, prayers, poems were read by various Italian artists in between the solidarity speeches of around 22 Italian deputies.

Later in the evening around two thousand people participated in the candle light vigil from Piazza Venezia to Rome`s Colosseum. The Colosseum was illuminated on 10th march by the municipality of Rome as a sign of solidarity with the Tibetans.

Before the end of the candle light vigil, news of the passage of intergroup parliamentarians’ resolution was welcomed with applause. The march concluded with a minute’s silence to pat tribute to the Tibetans killed under Chinese rule.

The event was promoted by the Tibetan community of Italy and supported by around 12 associations. The event was coordinated and moderated by the President of Tibetan community, Mr. Thupten Tenzin and radical party president, Bruno Mellano.

Commemoration of the day also took place in other cities such as Turin, Milan, Venice and Padova.
