50th Tibetan National Uprising Rally in New York

New York, March 11 – The East coast US Tibetan Congregation marked the 50th Tibetan National Uprising on March 10, 2009 in New York. The event was organized by RTYC, NY & NJ, RTWA, NY & NJ, Tibetan Community, NY & NJ, USTC and SFT.

Around 3500 Tibetans from New York, Vermont, Amherst, Boston, Philadelphia, Connecticut, New Jersey, Virginia, Maryland and Washington D.C joined the rally.
“50 years too long”, “50 years too long” was one of the slogans that marked the 50th anniversary of Tibetan National Uprising Day in New York. The march began from Brooklyn and passed the famous Brooklyn Bridge.

The Tibetans and supporters gathered at the UN where the program for 50th Tibetan national uprising day began with the singing of the Tibetan national anthem. 2 minute’s silence was observed to pay respects to all the martyrs of Tibet. His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s statement was read before representatives form the different organisers spoke to the gathering. TYC Vice president Dhondup Dorjee, former TYC president and member of Tibetan parliament Tsetan Norbu also spoke to the gathering.
