Tibetans in Capital Mark Nobel Peace Prize Day

New Delhi Dec 10: Tibetans in the Indian capital commemorated the nineteenth anniversary of the conferment of Nobel Peace Prize on His Holiness the Dalai Lama at Majnu Ka Tilla. More than 300 people gathered to take part in the celebrations that is much passive than usual owing to the turmoil in Tibet that left hundreds dead. Mr. Tenpa Tsering, representative of His Holiness the Dalai Lama in Delhi was the chief guest. Tibetan members of parliament residing in Delhi were also present at the function.

Mr. Tamdhin chophel, welfare officer of the Tibetan colony said, “Today is a day of joy and an encouragement of all the Tibetans. His Holiness won the most prestigious recognition for peace in 1989. But due to the sad situation in Tibet following the March unrest, and the recent terror attacks in Mumbai, there will be no songs and dance program today”.

The gathering observed a minute’s silence to mourn the victims of March unrest in Tibet.

Mr. Pralhad Singh Sawney, Congress MLA (Member of Legislative Assembly) from Delhi, who has been a staunch supporter of the Tibetans of the colony, greeted the Tibetan people on this occasion. Mr. Singh retained his constituency in the recent elections for Delhi Vidhan Sabha.
