MADRID, Spain – China’s foreign minister says the Dalai Lama’s recent activities had promoted secessionism in Tibet and he called on the spiritual leader to stop it.

Yang Jiechi says despite this, China has held a series of contacts with the Dalai Lama’s representatives in China, which could pave the way to a resolution of the crisis in Tibet.

Yang said Sunday at a Madrid news conference that the Tibetan spiritual leader should stop fomenting secession in Tibet and harming the image of the forthcoming Beijing Games.

Spanish Foreign Minister Miguel Angel Moratinos says the Olympics should not be politicized.

Moratinos says Spain will be sending an official delegation to the Games, although he was not yet able to say who will be in it.
