Toronto, May 4 – The Regional Tibetan Youth Congress-Toronto chapter and supporters for a Free Tibet continued the next leg for the Tibet Independence Torch Relay in Toronto on Sunday May 04, 2008. This inter-continental torch relay that started in Dharamsala, India is expected to end in Tibet.

Prominent political leaders from the Parkdale community, Amnesty International and responsible citizens were present to advocate for the freedom of Tibetans in Tibet. Over 1500 Tibetans and supporters from different communities joined together with one mantra- BOHED RANGZEN Now!

The relay started with silence observed for the lost lives in Tibet and prayers were chanted for the well-being of brothers and sisters who continue to be suppressed under China’s Communist Party. Amidst chants of prayers, President of RTYC Mr. Lobsang Khedup lighted the Torch and the Tibet Independence Torch Relay was kicked off by Mr. Tenzin Delek and Mr. Nawang Dhakpa (youths that raised the Tibetan National flag on March 10th over the Chinese Consulate in Toronto). Cheer camps were seen at various intersections along the route and Torontonians embraced the torch with hope for a better tomorrow.

Emotions were high and the crowd was driven towards one passion -a hope for a Free Tibet, a Free Tibet Now! The Torch symbolized TYC’s promise of its continued struggle for Tibet’s Independence. The relay ended outside the Chinese Consulate after a candle light vigil. Kudos to the Toronto Police for their continued support!

Many Tibetans continue to remain optimistic for Tibet’s Independence, let us never give up.

Free Tibet Now! Long Live H.H. The Dalai Lama!
