Barcelona, March 17 – In the city of Barcelona around 300 to 350 Tibetans and friends of Tibet made a big manifestation outside the Chinese consulate. It was organized by Tibet House and Tibetan Community, Barcelona (Spain).
The rally started from Tibet house till the Chinese Consulate with Tibetan flags and banners. Outside the Chinese consulate they demonstrated for around 2 hours. There was a speech by the President of Tibet House, Ven. Thupten Wangchen in Spanish. The manifestation was covered by many news papers and Television networks. During the demonstration the people shouted in different languages: Chinese, English and Spanish with slogans of ‘Stop killing in Tibet’, ‘TIBET LIBRE’ and ‘Tibet belongs to Tibetans.’
The demonstrators sang the Tibetan National Anthem and chanted Long Life prayers for His Holiness the Dalai Lama. With emotions running high some Tibetans fainted and had to be taken to the hospital. After the demonstration, Ven. Thupten Wangchen was invited for a live telecast interview on the recent killings in Tibet.
The Tibetans in Barcelona had also organized a ‘Peace Candle March’ from the 10th till the 17th of March. The main objective of the march was to show solidarity and moral support for the brave Tibetan brothers and sisters who live inside Tibet and to give a message that Tibetans in exile will always be there and will support and encourage them in the best possible way we can.
