Dharamsala: A nine-day comprehensive workshop on “Tibetan Democracy in exile and situation of Tibet” is underway in Dharamsala.
Some 80 students and 16 teachers, from 16 Tibetan senior secondary schools across India, are attending the workshop organised by the Delhi-based Tibetan Parliamentary and Policy Research Centre (TPPRC) and National Endowment of Democracy (NED) that began on Thursday, December 20, at the Tibetan Children’s Village School, Lower Dharamsala.
Participants from the Central Institute of Higher Tibetan Studies, Varanasi and College of Higher Tibetan Studies, Sarah are also attending the workshop.
Earlier in his introductory talk, the TPPRC Director Penpa Tsering gave an overall briefing on the workshop that included functions of the Central Tibetan Administration.
The workshop will give the students chance to hear from eminent resource persons, including Kalon Tripa Prof. Samdhong Rinpoche, Parliament Speaker Karma Chophel, MP and former Speaker of the Parliament Pema Jungney, Sonam N Dagpo, secretary for International Relations of the Department of Information and International Relations (DIIR), Dawa Tsering, head of Chinese section at DIIR and others.
Topics for the workshop ranges from the economic policies and formulation of budgets of the Central Tibetan Administration, chronology of Sino-Tibetan dialogue process, origins of four schools of Tibetan Buddhism, an introduction to Tibetan Buddhism and political situation in Tibet and China.
As a practical approach to the workshop, the participants will also visit various departments of the Central Tibetan Administration and other Dharamsala-based Tibetan institutions to gain first hand knowledge and information of their structural functioning.
