CHICAGO, IL – Fifty-eight Tibetans and Tibet supporters from Chicago and Indiana brought “Team Tibet” to the Chicago Cubs v. New York Mets baseball game at Wrigley field. Forty of the participants were Tibetan with most below the age of 20-years old. A couple of the Tibetans were less than 8-years old. Over 50,000 baseball fans attended this particular baseball game.

A number of the fans sitting in the same section as “Team Tibet” expressed curiosity and interest in why so many people were wearing bright gold T-shirts with the words “Team Tibet.” Members of “Team Tibet” were able to effectively educate them about Tibet and the Team.

During the course of the game, members of “Team Tibet” held up the USA Flag and Tibet Flag. They also held up three different very large banners with the slogans, “Fox TV Fans for Tibet and Cubs, “Cubs Fans Stand with Team Tibet,” and “Beijing 2008 Olympics: Whose side are you on?” The fans in the stands were supportive when viewing these banners.

Toward the end of the game, 10 Tibetans left the stadium and positioned themselves on each corner outside the facility. As fans exited, these Tibetans gave interested persons literature that explained “Team Tibet,” the Team’s concerns about the 2008 Olympics, and the atrocities occurring in Tibet. Over 2,500 pieces of literature were distributed.

The “Team Tibet” event at Wrigley Field was organized by the International Tibet Independence Movement, International Campaign for Tibet, Students for a Free Tibet, and Tibetan Alliance of Chicago, and it was part of the North American “Team Tibet” baseball action happening in 11 different cities on August 4, 2007.
