All Monks Peace March Flagged off in Mysore

On the Buddha Purnima, the 15th day of the Tibetan New Year, the Monks in South India took out a historic and sacred march for the freedom of ones country that had been under the evil clutches of Red China since half a century. The Holy March on the Holy day signifies the desperation and the frustration of the Tibetans who have numerous responsibility of saving everything Tibetan and Tibet that is on the brink of extinction. When the nation is on dire state, the monks who woe their commitments for the Dharma and Moksh, plunged their priority for the salvation of the Tibet that had been the last safe haven for the Buddha Dharma.

A Ceremony to mark the opening of the Peace March commenced at around 9.30 a.m at the Town Hall of the city with Shri Mahadev Prasad, Honorable Minister of Culture, Govt of Karnataka State, Mr Lobsang Yeshi, Vice President of Tibetan Youth Congress, Shri Vasappa Kumar, Chairman, South Zone Support for Tibet, Acharya Nawang Nyima, Principal, Sera Je Secondary School, Captain Rajagopala, President, ITFS Mysore and other eminent guests.

The ceremony begin with a singing of National Anthems, Mourning for the Tibetan Martyrs and a presentation of Mementos for the Guests. Later after an introduction speech by the Representive of the Organising Committee of the Peace March, Venerable Geshe Phurbu Samdup, The Chief Guest Shri Mahadev Ji spoke of the importance of the peace march by the monks and expressed his appreciation and the support for the Tibetan cause and the March in particular. This was followed by a speech by Mr Lobsang Yeshi who delve on the need and exigency for the monks to involve in the national struggle with much greater fervour and effectiveness, besides lauding monk’s historic and pioneering movement in the exile community.

Later after a felicitation of the monks activists by the representatives of the Regional Tibetan Youth Congress and Women’s Association of Bylakuppe, Kollegal, Hunsur and Mysore and the March was flagged off by the Honorable Minister who accompanied the marcher a several distance.

Over 150 monks from mostly Sera Monastery of Bylakuppe Tibetan Settlement in Periyapatna Taluk will be undertaking a Peace March from Mysore to Bangalore city from 3rd March to 10th March to commemorate the 48th Tibetan National Uprising day and to highlight and seek global support for the Tibetan freedom struggle. The march is primarily organized to seek support to save Tibet from the clutches of autocratic China.

The march is supported by the Regional Tibetan Women’s Association and Regional Tibetan Youth Congress of Bylakuppe and Mysore. Two representatives from TWA Bylakuppe and RTYC Mysore also accompany the Marchers for general support and guidance.
