His Holiness Returns from Mongolia Today

Dharamshala, August 30 – After successfully concluding his week-long visit to Mongolia, His Holiness the Dalai Lama returned to Dharamshala this morning.

His Holiness the Dalai Lama arrived at Ulan Bator airport via Japan on Monday (21 August) night where he was received by official dignitaries, monks of Gadan Thekchen Ling Monastery, and people of Mongolia.

From 23 to 28 August His Holiness the Dalai Lama gave teachings as requested by the Gandan Thekchen Ling Monastery which hosted His Holiness’ visit to the country.

On 24 morning,His Holiness the Dalai Lama met Prime Minister of Mongolia who expressed great delight at His Holiness’ visit.

He said he was pleased to welcome His Holiness to Mongolia this year as it coincide with commemoration of the 800th anniversary of Genghis Khan’s rule.

His Holiness the Dalai Lama met over 200-member delegation from Tuva led by their President, on 25 August. The Tuvan delegation said that they are hoping for His Holiness’ visit to their republic and in response His Holiness said, he believes he will visit Tuva in future. His Holiness visited Tuva before in 1992.

For the first time, His Holiness conferred Bhikshuka ordination to 52 Buddhist Mongolian monks during this visit.

His Holiness the Dalai Lama also gave a public talk at the Ulan Bator’s main stadium and stressed on the importance of modern education and preserving traditional religious values. His Holiness said inner peace could be achieved only by thinking positively and practicing religion. The material development cannot give us the eternal peace, he said.
