Exiled Tibetans celebrate Panchen Lama’s birthday

Dharamsala, April 25 – Tibetans-in-exile are celebrating the 17th birthday of the 11th Panchen Lama Gedun Choekyl Nyima, the second highest spiritual leader of the community after the Dalai Lama.

“Since Panchen is young at this moment, we’re gravely concerned about his whereabouts and also because he is the second most highest Lama. His right to teachings, his right to education is denied. That’s why we’re concerned because nothing is known about him. Its between the Tibetan government in exile and the Chinese government.

If possible if it’s resolved, he hopes, that the Panchen Lama problem will also be resolved. And the exiled government is trying it’s best along with many NGOs and many international communities, the United Nations, there is a growing concern among everyone. So, we hope that the day would come soon,” said Tenzing Choeying, a Tibetan youth speaking on behalf of Acheng Lobsang Zodpa, member Central Association for Panchen Lama.

Tibetan Center for Human Rights and Democracy along with NGOs assembled with Tibetan students to celebrate the big day.They took out a peace march in Mcleodganj area.A seminar “Talking Panchen Lama” was organised by the Central Association for the Panchen Lama.
