An emergency Working Committee Meeting (WCM) of Tibetan Youth Congress was held from 8th to 10th April 2006 at TCV Hostel, Delhi to discuss the issues relating to the resignation of Mr. Kalsang Phuntsok from the presidentship of the organization. It was unanimously resolved that all executive members must continue serving the organization with their respective posts as was held before for the rest of their term period. Based on this resolution, Mr. Kalsang Phuntsok will continue to serve as the president of TYC.

In addition, it was unanimously resolved that the resignation made by Mr. Kalsang Phuntsok on 27th January 2006 by means of a press conference was a mistake and acknowledging the mistake he tendered his apology during the Emergency WCM. The resolution further states that he must also withdraw his earlier press conference statements. Similarly it was also resolved that the press statement issued by the Central Executive Committee on 29th January, 2006 regarding the acceptance of his resignation was against the written constitution of the organization and must also be withdrawn.

Hence, through this press statement, Mr. Kalsang Phuntsok withdraws his earlier press conference that announced his resignation and similarly the Centrex office of TYC also withdraws its earlier press statement that acknowledged his resignation. Thus, the Central executive members will continue to serve this largest non-governmental organization in Tibetan diaspora, holding their respective previous post.

Tibetan Youth Congress is the world wide organization of Tibetans united in the common struggle for the restoration of the independence of Tibet including the traditional three province of U-Tsang, Do-toe and Do-med. The organisation’s impregnable reputation has evolved primarily from the congress’s dedication to the freedom struggle; its selfless and indefatigable efforts to uphold the Tibetan issue; its efforts to constantly improve itself and its hard working and unassuming leadership. TYC, therefore, sees itself as an instrument to fulfill the wishes of the six million Tibetan.

Issued by Office of the Central Executive Committee – 12th April 2006
