The 8th General Body Meeting of Tibetan Women’s Association, commenced on from today. Chief Guest Kasur Rinchen Khando Choegyal, who is also the first president of TWA graced the occasion along with the presence of other esteemed guests and former TWA executives. The function began with the singing of the Tibetan National Anthem followed by TWA Anthem. The Chief Guest gave a spontaneous deliberation through which she admitted with conviction that Tibetan Women has the will power to achieve anything and that is obvious in the growth of TWA since its inception in 1984. The Tibetan Nuns project and Tibetan Women’s role in the religious field is laudable.
The first president of TWA also stressed on the fact that Tibetan Women have dimensional roles to play and the most important being the socio- cultural role of being a good mother as home is the initial avenue for a citizen to get groomed. The inspiring words gave a renewed conviction in the TWA members to perform even better. TWA President, B.Tsering, gave a detailed report about the three-year activities of Central Tibetan Women’s Association.
It was resolved during the 7th General Body Meeting to grade and honor the Regional chapters with an Efficiency Award on the basis of their performance. The results were announced today and RTWA Dekyiling bagged the first position followed by RTWA Ontario, Canada with the 2nd position and RTWA Dharamshala with the 3rd. TWA General Secretary, Miss Pasang Dolma was honored with an Honorary Award for her dedicated service to TWA for 11 long years. TWA annual magazine “DOLMA” was inaugurated today along with the “NGO Alternative Report on Tibetan Women in Tibet, 2000-2005, for Beijing +10” and the new edition of “Current Perspective”.
One hundred and forty members constituting twenty-nine Regional Chapters will participate for the five-day meeting during which agendas will be drawn and significantly the 8th TWA Central Executive members will be elected. This time, the youth presence at the GBM was overwhelming and this reflection of a new trend is awe-inspiring
