Ladakh Phuntsok, a well-known actor, singer and a filmmaker from Ladakh, India, was in Tokyo recently to perform and teach yoga . He was invited to Tibet House, Tokyo on 6th August to share some of his talents with the members of the Tibetans community and Japanese members of Tibet Support Net. He screened his film titled “Purigpa”, a documentary on the Purigpa community in Kargil commissioned by Ministry of Tribal, Government of India. The film documents the close links between people of Ladakh region and Tibet. It is noted that Purigpa actually means ‘Bod-Rigpa ‘ (Tibetan race) He noted they call “Brag” to Rock which is Drak in Tibetan but written Brag or Gri for Dri –knife which again is “Gri” in written Tibetan.
Mr. Phuntsok also sang some popular songs from his “Dhammavani” album, a collection of devotional songs in praise of His Holiness the Dalai Lama. His songs and his comments on the importance of Tibetan culture to the Himalayan region touched a sentimental cord with the mainly Tibetan audience.
