After a successful two weeks exhibition at Louvain la Neuve University the traveling version of the Tibet Museum has now moved to the head library of the Ghent University on 23rd May 2005 for three weeks exhibition. Ghent University is the biggest university in the Flemish speaking region of Belgium with over twenty seven thousands students registered from all parts of the world including from China.

The opening function started with long life prayers for His Holiness the Dalai Lama led by Venerable Lobsang Nyandrak and Ngawang Kunchok, Tibetan monks of the area. In his introductory speech Mr. Migyur Dorjee from Bureau du Tibet, Brussels, dealt in length the importance of giving correct information to the general public, particularly the youths on Tibet’s past history, present struggle and future visions and added this exhibition is aimed to that direction.

Prof. De Clercq, Vice-Rector of the university formally opened the exhibition by lightening a butter lamp at 19.30 hrs. In his address to the audience Prof. De Clercq said “An undertaking such as this, interesting and highly informative exhibition fits nicely into the overall policy of Ghent University.”

Welcoming the Tibet exhibition to the university he further said “The powerful images and text shed light on recent events in Tibet, activities of Tibetan refugees in South Asia, and visions for Tibet’s future as articulated by the exile community. As such it helps to widen the outlook of our students and collaborators; it stimulates a deeper insight and a better understanding of the history of Tibet and its social, political, religious and cultural dimensions”.

Mr. Tenzin Norbu, Mr. Norbu Tsering, Mr. Norbu Tsewang and Mrs. Wangmo performed few traditional Tibetan dance and songs on the occasion which was very much appreciated by the audience.

Ms. Tenzin Wangmo Dunchu from Bureau du Tibet, Brussels, proposed the vote of thanks and offered Tibetan scarves to the vice-rector and Dr. Van Peteghem, chief librarian as a token of our appreciation for their support and cooperation.
