Khenpo’s Demise Shocks ATPD, Kashag

The passing away of one of the most influential Buddhist leaders in Tibet sent tremors of shock amongst the Tibetan communities in Tibet and exile. The Central Tibetan administration expressed its remorse in press statements issued yesterday.

The Assembly of Tibetan People’s Deputies also expressed deep shock over the sudden demise of Khenpo in a statement.

“The Assembly of the Tibetan People’s Deputies would like to extend its heartfelt condolences to the entire Buddhists community in general and in particular, to his aides, family members and followers”, the statement said.

The assembly prayed for the swift return of Khenpo in an incarnate form and fulfillment of his wishes.

The assembly praised the efforts of the late master in preserving and promoting Buddhism in Tibet despite continuous effort of the Chinese government to root out the ancient religion from Tibet.

“The sudden and tragic passing away of Khenpo Jigme Phuntsok will be mourned not only by the Tibetan people but by his international followers,” said Prof. Samdhong Rinpoche, the Kalon Tripa.

Prof. Samdhong Rinpoche said that the Tibetan people and his international disciples will pray for his speedy re-birth and that Khenpo Jigme Phuntsok was a great Tibetan Buddhist master who tried to preserve and promote the teachings of the Buddha in a very difficult circumstances.
