Dharamsala, November 27 – The Himachal Government has accepted the project of the International University of Buddhist Studies to be established here.

In a statement here today, University’s founder Chancellor Prof Swami Buddhanand said the establishment of university was aimed at bridging the communication gap between the Mahayan Buddhist and Theravada Buddhist, Eastern and Western Buddhist, Hill and Plain Buddhist and between Buddhist and Non-Buddhist. He said it also aimed at contributing to the universal peace and harmony.

He denied that it was a religious university but emphasised that the Buddhist studies on the specialised university and international level would be imparted here and will deal with Buddhism from the philosophical point of view.
