Dharamsala, August 12 – Hundreds of devotees are thronging Dharamsala town for the special discourse on Buddhist tantra by Tibetan spiritual leader the Dalai Lama.

Spread over 10 days, the session has been divided into three parts.

During the session, the Dalai Lama will teach disciples about the rituals of initiation, purification and benediction. The monastery resounded with the chants of Buddhist monks from all the four sects-Nyingma, Kagyud, Sakya, and Gelug. Buddhists believe that the ceremony would bring peace and harmony throughout the world.

“We are happy to be here. The local people here and the temple… it’s very nice to us. We are very fortunate to have this chance to be here and to listen to his holiness’ teaching,” a Buddhist tourist said.

“Dalai Lama’s teachings are really interesting and I feel really good when I hear (them) because they open my mind and my head. And it’s really nice to be here….I can understand the beginnings and the ending, and the true meaning of life. It’s really interesting,” added Jenifer, another tourist.

The Dalai Lama has been living in exile in the Himalayan town of Dharamsala with thousands of his followers since an abortive uprising in 1959 against Chinese rule.
