Dharamsala, July 31 – The Governor of Himachal Pradesh, Honourable Shri Justice Vishnu Sadashiv Kokje (retd) and his wife were received at the Circuit House by Mr. Ajai Singh Mankotia, President, Indo-Tibetan Friendship Association, its members and Sonam Choephel Shosur, the Tibetan welfare officer in the afternoon of July 29.
The Governor and his wife visited the famous Bhagsu Nath temple at around 5.30 in the evening. An official tea reception in honour of the Governor and his entourage was offered by the Central Tibetan Administration at Tsuglakhang temple.
Prof Samdhong Rinpoche, the Kalon Tripa, offered traditional Tibetan scarves and souvenirs to the Governor and his wife on behalf of the Tibetan people after they engaged in a thorough conversation.
Prof Samdhong Rinpoche accompanied Shri Kokje and his wife in the Tsuglakhang temple, the main Buddhist cathedral, opposite the residence of His Holiness the Dalai Lama. The Governor’s entourage left for the Tibetan Institute of Performing Arts where they were welcomed by Shri Mankotia and Mrs. Kelsang Youdon Dagpo, Director of the Institute. Mr. Mankotia delivered the welcome speech which was followed by an introduction to the activities of Rotary Club by its President.
In his address to the gathering, the Governor said that Dharamsala is the residence of His Holiness the Dalai Lama and the Tibetans who strive to preserve their religion and culture, and that the local Indians should extend their best possible support in doing so.
Shri Kokje also said that he will direct the state government to work towards improving the environment, roads and basic infrastructure of the town.
Indo-Tibetan Friendship Association and the Rotary Club hosted a dinner reception for the Governor and his wife after the cultural performances by the artists of the institute.
