Beijing, July 26 – A senior Tibetan official has welcomed Indian tourists and businessmen to visit the Himalayan region amid rejuvenation of Sino-Indian relations.

This was stated by the Deputy Secretary of the Tibet Autonomous Regional Committee of the ruling Communist Party of China (CPC), Yang Chuantang, who met with Sitaram Yechury, member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) in Lhasa, Tibet’s capital on Friday.

Yang said China and India are both countries with ancient civilisations, and their traditional friendship has been rejuvenated by the exchanges of high-level visits in recent years.

The declaration on principles for relations and comprehensive cooperation between China and India signed during Prime Minister Vajpayee’s China visit this June marked a new phase of overall development in bilateral relations, Yang was quoted as saying by Xinhua news agency late last night.
