New Delhi, July 8 – India today vehemently denied that it had made any compromise with its stand on Tibet as opposition parties hailed the achievements made in Sino-Indian relations during Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s recent visit to China.

” Contrary to some media report, there is no change in our position that the Tibet Autonomous Region is part of the People’s Republic of China. Also, there is no change in our stand on the Dalai Lama or the Tibetan refugees in India,” External Affairs Minister Yashwant Sinha told members of the Parliamentary Consultative Committee for his ministry.

The fresh clarification came in the wake of newsreports that India had made a big concession to China during Mr Vajpayee’s visit by recognising Tibet as part of that country.

According to an External Affairs Ministry spokesman, Mr Sinha told the meeting that the Prime Minister’s visit had achieved India’s “twin objective” of establishing close relations with the new Chinese leadership as well as to impart a fresh momentum to the process of diversification of bilateral relations.
