Bangalore, June 27 – Regional Tibetan Youth Congress (RTYC) today said it was “disappointed” at India’s stand on Tibet Autonomous Region (TAR).

Prime Minister Vajpayee, who is a highly respected leader with a deep knowledge of the issue, has been a strong advocate of Tibetans’ case, RTYC president, Pema Tseten, said.

“We are disappointed” at India’s stand on Tibet, he said, commenting on Vajpayee’s China visit.

Pema and RTYC vice-president, Dorjee Rapten Neshar, told reporters that the decision to have border trade with China through Nathula in Sikkim would give China a “stronger grip” over Tibet.

India has said that recognition of TAR as part of the territory of China was consistent with New Delhi’s stand since 1954 and that no concessions have been made.

Karnataka is home to five Tibetan settlements in which some 40,000 Tibetans live.
