Lucknow, June 24 – The Congress on Tuesday criticised Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee for what it termed “surrendering Tibet and obtaining a certificate from China on Sikkim” during his visit to China.
In a political resolution adopted on the concluding day of the two-day meeting of the district presidents of the state unit, the party said “to obtain a certificate from China on Sikkim is dangerous for the unity and integrity of the country.”
India and China had on Monday agreed to conduct trade through the Northeastern state.
The resolution said India had been relegated to an “insignificant position in the world following wrong diplomatic policies pursued by the Centre”.
Briefing reporters after the meeting, the party’s state in-charge Subodh Kant Sahai said the Union government’s was “kneeling down” on the diplomatic front.
