Tibetans scale world’s fifth highest mountain

KATHMANDU, May 14 – Four climbers from Chinese-administered Tibet Wednesday scaled the world’s fifth tallest peak, 8,463-metre (27,762-foot) Mount Makalu, the tourism ministry announced.

The climbers were Tsering Dorje, 43, Rinar (Eds: one name), 32, Banda Drashi, 38, and Akebu (Eds: one name), 43.

Nepal is heavily promoting mountain tourism this month for the Golden Jubilee of Edmund Hillary and Sherpa Tenzing Norgay’s ascent of Everest.
