Dharamsala, May 8 – Tibetan music lovers will have a reason to smile in October this year. After the booming success of the first ever beauty pageant of the diaspora Tibetan community, Lobsang Wangyal Productions plan to come up with another mega event. Last year’s Miss Tibet organisers will be holding the first music awards of the Tibetan exile community. Despite the lack of support last year for the pageant the event was a great success going by the coverage it has received in the media. Lobsang Wangyal, the man behind the event and Dolma Tsering, the winner of the Miss Tibet crown are just back from Malaysia where they took part in the Miss Tourism World pageant.
First of its kind, the award ceremony is aimed to felicitate the veteran as well as amateur musicians of Tibet. Talking to phayul, Lobsang said that through the event he plans to create awareness about the rich tradition of Tibetan music. The event was earlier planned to be held in Bangalore which would be helpful for the participants from the Tibetan settlements in south India but owing to financial restraints the venue has been changed to Dharamsala.
On asked about how he felt of the condemnation of last year’s pageant by the Kalon Tripa, Lobsang said he understands how, with the general Tibetan mentality, his pageant’s obscenity would not have fitted in the mind of a man of high philosophical values and that he hopes his music award will not certainly be looked the same way.
The event will take place in October this year at Tibetan Institute of Performing Arts. A website of the event has been launched. Music lovers can be a part of the event by voting their nominations for various categories of awards by logging on to www.musictibet.com
