DHARAMSALA – The Tibetan government-in-exile here said on Saturday that it was not expecting defence minister of India George Fernandes, currently on tour to China, to take up the issue of Tibet with the Chinese authorities.

Thubten Samphel, secretary, Information and International Relations Department, Tibetan governmentin-exile, speaking to TNN said that India needs to realise that without resolving the question of Tibet, Sino-Indian relations could not improve significantly.

Samphel said it was a known fact that India’s position in the Asian continent became fragile due to the forcible occupation of Tibet by China in 1959. He said due to Tibet’s occupation by China, India had to share its borders with China.
