Tibetan Medicine in the European Parliament
The Working Group of Complimentary and Natural Medicine through the Tibet Inter-group of the European Parliament invited Prof. Dr. Pasang Yonten Arya, (former Principal and Professor at the Mentseekhang of H.H. the Dalai Lama and the director of The New Yuthok Institute for Tibetan Medicine in Milan, Italy) to give a lecture about Tibetan Medicine and its development in the East and West which he did on 12th February 2003. For the first time in the history of Tibetan Medicine – and since the beginning of the European Union – the European Parliament has taken an interest in Tibetan Medicine and its culture. Dr Arya urged the President and the committee to support the preservation of the centuries old healing tradition of Tibet and to provide it recognition, in line with that accorded the other complimentary medical traditions, for the development of Tibetan Medicine in Europe.
Tibetan Medicine in the Lower House of the Italian Parliament
The New Yuthok Institute for Tibetan Medicine in Milan, Italy, founded by Prof. Dr. Pasang Yonten Arya, is an institute for the study of Tibetan Medicine, Buddhist Psychology and Tibetan culture. It has worked for the recognition of Tibetan medicine in Italy for a long time and, recently, the Italian Government accepted its appeals. On 29th of January 2003, the New Yuthok Institute made a proposal to the Italian Lower House for the recognition of Tibetan Medicine in Italy in line with that accorded the other traditional medical systems. The office of the Health Department of the Tibetan Government in exile in Dharamsala has sent a thank-you letter of appreciation to the Italian Parliament for its decision.
