Memory service for Tibetan martyrs

London, 12 March – In a simple and solemn ceremony organised this morning by the All Party Parliamentary Group for Tibet on the courtyard of the Westminster Abbey, the Dean of Westminster, Dr. Wesley Carr, lead a prayer service in memory of all the Tibetans who have died for Tibet’s freedom.

The former speaker of the British Parliament, Lord Weatherill, who also is the advisor to the APPGT laid a wreath at the Memorial to Innocent Victims of Oppression, Violence and War. Mr. Tsering Tashi, Secretary, Office of Tibet (London), laid a traditional Tibetan white scarf as a mark of respect and homage to all the Tibetan martyrs.

Geshe Tashi Tsering, resident teacher of the Jamyang Buddhist Centre recited some prayers and prayed for the well being of the Tibetan people and all other victims of oppression. A two minute silence was also observed and among those present on this solemn occasion included key office bearers of the Tibet Society, the oldest Tibet support group in UK.

This wreath laying ceremony is observed every year by the All Party Parliamentary Group for Tibet in partnership with the Westminster Abbey to remember all the Tibetans who have fallen victim to the Chinese occupation and also to let it be known that the world has not forgotten Tibet and its plight.
