Pondy: Himalayan art exhibition inaugurated

Pondicherry, February 7 – Pondicherry Chief Minister N Rangasamy unveiled an exhibition of rare ancient ‘Tankas’ (Buddhist scroll paintings) of Ladakh, in the International Auroville Zone here.

Speaking on the occasion yesterday, he said the country’s efforts to attain unity and development would be bolstered if the principles of Buddhism were followed.

“The exhibition not only depicts the Tibetan culture but also reflects the principles of Buddhism,” he told the gathering at the opening of the 10-day exhibition being organised by the Pavilion of Tibetan culture, Auroville in collaboration with the Union Tourism and Culture Ministry and the Central Institute of Buddhist studies, Ladakh.

Tibetan spiritual leader Dalai Lama, in a written message hoped that the initiative would help the people understand Buddhism better and appreciate its timeless values.

The Buddhist paintings from the Likir, Phyiang, Lingshed and Stanka monasteries in Ladakh showcase the ancient way of life and its eternal message of peace.
