A group of Tibetan monks will make their sixth visit to Mount Shasta February 10th to 13th as part of a tour to introduce the sutra and tantra of Buddhism and promote the welfare of their monastery in India.

The three-day program includes the following:

— Geshe Ngawang Lungtok will present a talk on what peace means in the Buddhist culture and how each person can be responsible for creating a culture of peace. The event takes place at 7 p.m. February 10th at Saint Anthony’s Parish Hall, 507 Pine Street in Mount Shasta;

— A peace talk will be presented at 7 p.m. February 11th at the Greenhorn Grange, 300 Ranch Road in Yreka. Contact Jean Peters at 475-0765 for more information on this event; and

— Geshe-la will give a Migtsema empowerment and healing ritual involving visualization, chanting and instruction on the practice at 7 p.m. February 10th at Saint Anthony’s Parish Hall in Mount Shasta.

The monks will also be available for astrology readings, private healings and house and business blessings.

Donna Bringenberg, local host for the monks, said they are in exile in India since the Chinese invasion and although the Indian government has provided land for them, many of their basic needs go unmet.

“Their visit to the United States gives participants an opportunity to learn something valuable about Tibetan culture,” Bringenberg said. “Also, to assist the monks in a meaningful way for the daily needs of the residents and specifically the health and hygiene needs of the old and sick monks.”

Bringenberg said there is also a need to address the difficulties of obtaining basic necessities such as water and electricity.

The monks maintain a web site at www.gadenshartse.org.
