Dharamsala, May 20 – The prime minister of the Tibetan government-in-exile will highlight environmental degradation in Tibet caused by the Chinese government during a visit to Europe starting Thursday, a top official here said.
Samdhong Rinpoche, who heads the Tibetan government based here, left for France Thursday at the invitation of Resurgance, an NGO working for the promotion of sustainable development.
He is scheduled to participate in a series of meetings with Tibetan support groups in France.
Rinpoche will also visit Britain, where he will participate in a public speaking event organised by the International Society of Ecology and Culture in London on May 26, said the spokesman of the Tibetan government.
“Later he will meet members of the British parliament, Tibetan supporters and Tibetans living in Britian,” the spokesman told IANS.
Asked about Rinpoche’s speech on the environment in London, the spokesman said it was likely to focus on environmental degradation in Tibet caused by the Chinese government.
The Dalai Lama, the highest Tibetan spiritual leader, has been living in India with around 100,000 refugees after fleeing Tibet in 1959.
