DHARAMSHALA, August 8: Two regional chapters of the largest Tibetan non governmental organization of the Tibetan Diaspora, Mundgod RTYC and Bengaluru RTYC, have rejoined the Tibetan Youth Congress which they quit over ideological differences in 2013.

At the 2013 working Committee meeting held here, eight RTYCs – Bengaluru, Bylakuppe, Mundgod, Hunsur, Kollegal, Dalhousie, Pandoh and Ladakh – demanded that the TYC change its stand of ‘Independence’ to ‘Middle Way Approach’, a stand pursued by the Tibetan exile government. This led to their expulsion as RTYC in 2014 for ‘violation of Tibetan Youth Congress (TYC) rules and regulations’.

Speaking to Phayul, President of TYC Tenzing Jigme said that the unification of the eight chapters has been one of the main agendas of the present Centrex and sees the reunification as result of both the parties coming together to solve the issue.

“In the three years we have approached all the chapters and made several visits to South India. We have high hope that most of the chapters will reunite. There is still some time and we are working on some issues,” Jigme said while adding that they will have clearer picture of the issue during the 16th General Body Meeting (GBM) scheduled from August 29 to September 3.

He also added that they are not sure if all the eight chapters would reunite under the TYC Centrex’s umbrella but that their approach would remain the same.

Approaching it as an important issue to tackle, he said, “My hope is that in the next three years, the new board members don’t have to spend time sorting out internal issues rather than addressing the greater issue before us – the Tibet issue, and the hopes of the Tibetans inside Tibet.”

The current Centrex also resolved the controversy surrounding the NY/NJ chapter after arriving at a mutual understanding in the best interest of the organization and its movement in January this year.
