DHARAMSHALA, January 26: The Central Tibetan Administration today celebrated 67th Republic Day of India as the Tibetan Prime Minister (Sikyong) Dr Lobsang Sangay and senior officials of the CTA gathered outside the Kashag Secretariat for a brief event.
The Tibetan PM unfurled the Indian tricolor amidst the rendition of the Indian national anthem.
“Tibetans across the world including inside Tibet are fully participating, in person or in spirit, in the celebration of the 67th Republic Day of India. On behalf of all the Tibetans, we wish this great nation on this Republic Day,” Sikyong said after the flag hoisting ceremony.
“India is a model for the Tibetan freedom struggle. Under the leadership of Mahatma Gandhi, Indian people led by non-violent movement succeeded in getting independence. It will be the best story of the century, if Tibet succeeded under the leadership of His Holiness the great Dalai Lama,” Sikyong said.
The Harvard graduate also thanked India and Indian people for their generosity and kindness to the Tibetans for many years. He also thanked the government and people of India for being a kind host to His Holiness the Dalai Lama and the Central Tibetan Administration.
Sikyong also welcomed the French President, Francois Hollande, who attended at the Republic Day parade in the Indian capital as the chief guest for the official celebration of the Republic Day. The Indian constitution came into effect on January 26th, 1950, making it a sovereign, democratic and a republic state.
Following the ceremony, Sikyong attended the Indian official Republic Day celebrations at the Police Ground in Dharamshala.
