Dharamshala, September 20 – A massive landslide in Shimla, the capital city of Himachal Pradesh, yesterday turned 18 shops owned by Tibetans into rubble and killed an Indian man.

The landslide was caused by heavy downpour in northern India last night. The market below Gandhi ground on Rivoli road had 105 shops, 76 of which were owned by Tibetans. However, no casualties to Tibetans have been reported.

The Tibetans held a meeting today to discuss ways to help the affected families. Talking to media, Tsetan, the president of the Tibetan Freedom Movement said the estimate of the loss to property can not be given as yet. He said that the Tibetans are now evacuating the remaining shops of the market as heavy downpour continues in the region.

Shimla is a major hill station attracting tourists both from India and abroad.
